Actors-Space Berlin, die

einjährige Ausbildung in Sanford Meisners kompletten
Unterrichtsprogramm! Beginn dieser Ausbildung ist der 20. September
2010.

mitzuwirken.
getreu dem New Yorker Vorbild unterrichtet.
The
Actors-Space Berlin, home to Germany's leading professional Meisner
classes, is extending its programme to a year-long, foundational
acting training. Three semesters of twelve weeks each, and a summer
intensive course leading to a final theatre production. In addition to
the core acting classes, you will benefit from regular voice,
movement and camera training, with the Actors-Space faculty of top
coaches. This
is a unique opportunity for anyone who is serious about the craft of
acting, and is looking to train, or re-train, the necessary skills.
Meisner's unique approach to acting will teach you, in
absolutely practical ways, to relate deeply to your partner's behaviour and
respond truthfully, from moment to moment.
You will discover how to work from your character's
point of view, improvising freely within the character's circumstances.
Through the year you will work repeatedly with scenes
and monologues to test and deepen your understanding of the work. Studying text
analysis, the creation of character and good audition practice, you will have
the chance in the final semester to participate in a full theatre production, as
part of the Actors-Space Ensemble.
This year will instil deep confidence in your skill as
an actor, allowing you to be playful, spontaneous and authentic in every moment
of your work. This is the only Meisner actors programme in Europe that offers a
full experience of all the exercises as they are taught in New
York.
Fees: start at 4165Euro for the core Meisner
programme, with additional modules payable separately.
Fees may be paid in instalments throughout the
year. Sponsorship of your fees might be available
from GVL, the FFA or the Arbeitsamt, depending on your status. The
Bundesministerium fuer Bildung und Forschung also give a Bildungspraemie which
will pay up to 500Euro of these fees, if you
qualify.
André
Bolouri moved to New York from California in 2008 to study the Meisner
Technique with William Esper at his studio. William Esper is considered
the leading teacher
of the Meisner technique in the US. He not only studied with Sanford
Meisner but was also appointed by him to teach at the Neighborhood
Playhouse.
Andre
Bolouri translated W. Esper´s book “The Actor´s Art
and Craft” into German which should be published in 2010.
Since
2000 Andre has worked regularly with an international theatre ensemble
– the ´Grace and Glory Ensemble´ including actors
from the National Theatre London, Russia, Israel,
Italy, France and the U.S. They focused on classical theatre, and he
directed the company at its base in California for three years.
His
work there as an actor included Romeo, Hamlet, Gilgamesh, Pinocchio,
and he directed The Tempest, Gilgamesh, Quetzalcoatl and Twelfth Night,
among others. He also trained
the company as well as young aspiring actors in the Chekhov technique,
improvisation, rhetoric, voice and speech and movement.
Between
1998 and 2005 Andre worked and studied with Yoshi Oida as assistant
director in Hamburg at the Thalia Theater, as well as in Paris.
He
trained with Frieder Kranz for three years in the Chekhov technique and
performed with his Berlin Ensemble ´the studio´ –
based on this technique, in ´Rashomon´. For
two years he experienced the advantages and disadvantages of being
employed by a Stadttheater, in this case Bremerhaven, where he took the
opportunity to start teaching and co-founded the ´Theater
Jugendclub´, training and
directing it for two years. He performed a solo of “Der Ansager
einer Stripteasenummer gibt nicht auf”, touring Germany. He
played Paul in ´Fireface´at the former Kleist-Theater
Frankfurt that got invited to Theater
festivals in Germany and Europe. In 2004 he worked as assistant
director to Ismael Ivo at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
Other
Workshop experiences include Keith Johnstone (Improvisation, Berlin),
Kristian Lupa (Stanislawski, Krakow), Zygmond Molik (Grotowski,
Berlin), Per Brahe (Masks, New York).
Andre's original training was between 1995 and 1998 when studied at the Fritz Kirschhoff School of Acting.
He continues to work for TV, commercials, movies and theatres as an actor.

You will act authentically, working deeply from
your character's point of view, improvising freely, and working moment
to moment. And as we introduce script work, we will study
Meisner's unique approach to text analysis, and yet remain focused on
how to stay powerfully simple and truthfully present in the scene.
Mike Bernardin will be the principal teacher for all sessions, and the work will be in English and German.

PRACTICAL CAMERA WORKSHOP,
with Mike Bernardin AND Wolfgang Wimmer:
Weekend Intensive,October 8th, 9th and 10th
The biggest challenge facing actors sometimes comes AFTER they
have begun to taste the creative freedom that the Meisner
Technique offers. In our class work we allow ourselves total
liberty both to investigate and free ourselves from the perceived
demands of the scene. But in the workplace the pressure to conform and
deliver someone else's vision easily reasserts itself. Especially when
we know that the camera can SEE everything...
What
does it mean to act for the camera? How can I allow the camera to grant
me MORE freedom, rather than stealing my creativity away? What do I do
about the close up? And can a director who tells me what to do in a
scene really be a collaborator?
How do we sustain our total inner freedom in the face of these questions?
Work with Mike and Wolfgang to begin to untangle the trick of truthful
acting for film.
Friday 8th October, 18.30 - 21.00Uhr, Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th, 10.30 - 20.00Uhr

onwards, participation in the drop-in classes is ONLY possible with a
ten-class card, which now will cost only 215 Euros (incl. 19%tax), instead of 28Euro per

There
is no expiry limit on the ten class card so you remain free to drop-in
as often or as little as you are able.
If you are unsure if you want to make this commitment, please feel free
to come and watch a few classes before deciding. There is no charge for
observing the work.
The drop-in classes are an open space to work on
any aspect of your acting - practising Meisner's approach to scene
work, emotional preparation, auditions and just solid
technique, which makes so much difference to the
actor's readiness for work. The Technique develops your availability
and openness, and trains you to stay out of your own head, by focusing
your attention instead on your partner.
For any actor facing the challenge of an emotional scene, it's good to
have effective tools, and to know oneself well enough to be able
to rely on those tools under pressure. Most importantly we need to be
able to open ourselves up to that vein of experience in us which is
emotionally attuned to the scene.
This workshop offers some very practical exercises
that can unlock the imagination and give you almost unlimited access to your
emotional life.
There are two Parts to the Workshop:
Part One is the Introduction to Emotional
Preparation. We will work together in a mutually supportive environment,
exploring the blockages and challenges within ourselves, and finding different
routes past those blockages. We will undertake to find deep emotional resources
in ourselves, so that you feel equipped when it matters, and not
lost.
Part Two is the application of these
tools and exercises to texts. We mostly will work on "Monologues", and
especially those taken from Edgar Lee Masters' book "Spoon River Anthology".
This course is open to anyone who has already done Emotional Preparation
work.
It's very intense work, and very rewarding for any
actor, especially if you are interested in pursuing a fuller understanding of
the Meisner Technique.

felt, truthful performances. There will be three groups, each with a
